Last year, we came together with the partnership of our guest speaker and award-winning journalist Imara Jones to unpack the layers and obstacles that the transgender community is forced to climb through for safety and peace. For this year’s Transgender Visibility Day, we urge our community to stretch beyond bearing witness and jump into action as extreme violations of basic human rights persist. Trans people deserve to not just survive – but to thrive.

• Learn more about the Equality Act – The Equality Act would provide consistent and explicit non-discrimination protections for TLGBQ people across key areas of life, including employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federally funded programs, and jury service.

To amplify the work of @TransWeek, we are highlighting some of the orgs that they have prioritized as the urgent need for local action continues:

• Zebra Coalition: The Coalition assists young people facing homelessness, bullying, isolation from their families, and physical, sexual and drug abuse with individualized programs to guide them to recovery and stability.

• Transgender Education Network of Texas: TENT is an organization dedicated to furthering gender diverse equality in Texas. They accomplish this through education and networking in both public and private forums.

• The Knights & Orchards Society: They provide affirming STD/STI testing, reproductive care, and Trans-Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) care. They also provide behavioral support services and direct support assistance in a financial or housing crisis. Their client care network currently extends throughout Alabama, and we are actively expanding our reach to encompass the entire Southeastern region of the US.

• Black Trans Advocacy Coalition: They aim to help improve the Black transgender human experience by overcoming violence and injustice in the world through the power, value and love of all people.
