After Columbia University canceled Commencement in 2024, in just 2 weeks, Columbia students organized a graduation event entirely for, and by, the graduating class. The focus was on student performances and celebrations, including a surprise appearance by Columbia alumnus, Ben Platt. The event kicked off with a student-led University Convocation, followed by a lively Block Party with local food trucks, live music, games, and various activities.
The event featured performances that brought the community together and highlighted the students’ achievements, including Okieriete “Oak” Onaodowan, Frank Garcia, The Harlem Gospel Choir, Roar-EE, the Columbia mascot, and Ben Platt.
