Celebrating Mental Health Action Day with MTV Entertainment, the White House and Selena Gomez
Today is the second-annual Mental Health Action Day, a global movement created by MTV Entertainment. To kick-off the day, MTVE organized a first-ever Mental Health Youth Action Forum at the White House together with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Selena Gomez as well as 30 young mental health activists assembled to lead the charge in creating storytelling solutions to inspire their peers.
In March, Forbes exclusively announced the Forum timed to President Biden’s State of the Union address, aligning MTVE’s leadership in mental health with the Administration’s agenda. The momentum continued with a People exclusive spotlighting Selena Gomez as a partner and a drumbeat of local news stories on ABC, NBC, FOX and Spectrum, culminating in a USA Today feature showcasing Chris McCarthy and MTVE’s commitment to removing stigma and normalizing the conversation through storytelling and cross-sector coalition building.
With more than 750+ hits, the Forum at the White House not only moved First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Selena Gomez to make calls to action for Mental Health Action Day and evoke the message that “Mental Health is Health,” but also they posted on their social platforms to their collective hundreds of millions of followers. MTV Entertainment blanketed local and national coverage from AP, CNN, Politico, ABC Nightline, CBS Newspath, ET, Elle and news affiliates in over 75 markets, culminating in a national CBS Mornings segment today.
